MAde in deFENIKS/artist in residence: PLAY – Marieke Berndsen en Sielke De Mulder
27 & 28.09.2014
A girl in a house. She does her own thing, making coffee and toast with jam, singing in the shower. Above the girl lives the boy. She knows him better than anyone, because she hears everything he does. She knows what he enjoys, what he does at 9.04 am, 3.57 pm and 10.22 pm. She has never seen him, but the sounds he makes make her heart beat faster.
Soup to Walnuts – Mikio Saito (JP)
27 & 28.09.2014
Artist in residence
In his video work Mikio combines hand-drawn animation, computer graphics and sounds recorded in the neighbourhood, all in a highly individual way. During the three weeks he is resident at deFENIKS, Mikio is putting together a music video of everything he encounters, even if it changes his original plans.

Beasts and Loners – beisspony
27 & 28.09.2014
Artist in residence
A blue-pink pony with a black mane, a horn on its head and a belly full of flattened toy cars, but above all with dirty yellow and razor-sharp shark’s teeth. Cute, in other words, but dangerous too. This is beißpony, aka Steffi Müller and Laura Theis. During their residency at deFENIKS these two young German girls are composing their own songs and making up bizarre stories which, with the requisite showmanship, are threaded together with dulcet notes on the piano and odd rhythms from an electronically amplified sewing machine. Crazy but fun? Precisely! Get ready for beißpony’s contredanse. Poetry meets anarchy!
Vadermoord (Patricide) – Songbook – TG Vagevuur & De Waancel
27.09.2014
A song cycle for male trio and piano, stage directed with a light hand concert. Koen Boesman commissioned Peter Spaepen to write 14 songs as a musical counterpart to the psychological thriller ‘Patricide’, a stage play by TG Vagevuur. All these songs will now be performed in concert for the first time at the FENIKS FESTIVAL.
Zwerm Marching Band
28.09.2014
Zwerm is a Dutch-Belgian electric guitar quartet that won the Klara Award for promising young talent in 2012. They are now going out into the street playing in a gently anarchic marching-band style, accompanied by the keyboard player and percussionist Eric Thielemans.
Leeghoofd (Empty-Head)- Tuning People & kinderenvandevilla
28.09.2014
A sensorily stimulating experience (4 years and over). A boy puts a big white ball on his head. From now on he is ‘Empty-Head’. He makes eyes, ears, a mouth and a nose using stickers, funnels and football socks. Ready for a voyage of discovery in the bizarre world he has created for himself.
