Eurudike, Katelijne and Helena De Beul – three singing sisters – are on stage together. They found the inspiration for Penelope in the life of their grandmother, a silent, waiting woman. After the loss of seven of her children during wartime she remained silent for 45 years. In this way she passed on her tragedy to the next generations. Her fate inspired the sisters to make Penelope- the dark and waiting woman from ancient times. There are only a couple of pages in Odyssea dedicated to Penelope but here she is the protagonist. How does she carry, portray, honour, curse, embrace her ideal, her destiny. When does it become desperation? How heroic is her waiting?
WALPURGIS offers a 2008-2009 residency to Eurudike De Beul under the heading of GENEROSITA. WALPURGIS provides logistic, artistic, and financial support for Eurudike’s individual trajectory as an artist.
