Singer Lieselot De Wilde explores how language shapes the sound, color, and expression of a voice. Songs from around the world are her starting point, but she often lets them escape their traditional frameworks to place them in new, unexpected worlds.
Her work moves between abstract soundscapes, where words lose their meaning, and contemporary new-urban contexts that evoke stories and emotions. In projects like Bel Ayre and the Barrel Organ Project, she combines original compositions with reimaginings of songs from across the globe. With Figurines, she explores the female voice and persona in a historical and societal context, often resulting in visually and physically compelling music theater creations.
Lieselot collaborates with a wide range of musicians, theater makers, and ensembles, such as Correspondances, Servir Antico, Zefiro Torna, Soolmaan, Ben Frost, Sofie Vanden Eynde, Christina Vantzou, and Frederik Neyrinck. Her versatile style, influenced by classical, jazz, and ethnic music, leads to remarkable partnerships with companies like LOD and Zonzo Compagnie.
She received the 2021 Flemish Culture Prize Ultima for Music.
